Gelato 45, also sold as Gelato #45 or G45 and nicknamed Michael Jordan, is one of the numbered phenotypes picked in 2014 from the seeds of the original Gelato, a Sunset Sherbet × Thin Mint GSC cross from Mr. Sherbinski and Jigga of the Bay Area’s Cookie Fam.1,2,3,4,5 Sherbinski listed #45 among Gelato’s phenotypes in 2018, but GreenState reported in 2024 that he does not recognize it.6,7 It tests at a median total THC of 19.65% across only 53 state lab tests of Gelato 45 flower, a small sample, with the middle half of results between 18.12% and 21.26%.8

A hybrid that leans slightly indica in most descriptions. Leafly calls it a hybrid with mostly calming effects, AllBud lists 55% indica and 45% sativa, and Barney’s Farm sells a 60% indica seed version. Leafly describes both parents, Sunset Sherbet and GSC, as indica-dominant hybrids.2,9,10,12,13

Leafly’s history of the Cookies family says Jigga and Mr. Sherbinski made a female Sunset Sherbet produce pollen, used it on a GSC, grew out the seeds and picked their keepers at a private tasting on June 16, 2014; the numbers on the pots became the names, and 45 was one of them.4 Leafly lists it as G45, and its 2018 Strain of the Year article gives the nickname Michael Jordan.2,3

Gelato 33 (Larry Bird) and Gelato 41 (Bacio Gelato) are on the breeder’s list of six official cuts; Gelato 45 is not.4,7 Leafly lists 20% THC for #33, 21% for #41 and 19% for #45, with caryophyllene as the dominant terpene in all three, and gives #45 the top effects relaxed, euphoric and happy.2,14,15
The Gelato cross is credited to Mr. Sherbinski (Mario Guzman) and Jigga (Jai Chang) of the Cookie Fam, and Sherbinski named #45 among its phenotypes in a 2018 High Times interview.4,5,6 In 2024 GreenState reported that he does not recognize Gelato 45, and his company’s site lists other Gelato cuts but not this one.7,16 Barney’s Farm and Helvetic Seeds have sold feminized seed versions.10,11,17
Peppery and minty to some, fruity to others. Leafly lists pepper, menthol and earthy and describes a sweet flavor with hints of earthy pine; on Weedmaps, 44% of flavor reports say lemon, 33% earthy and 22% berry. Barney’s Farm compares the aroma of its seed version to mint-chocolate ice cream and sweet berries.1,2,10

Gelato 45’s fame comes from its family and its nickname. Leafly’s 2018 Strain of the Year article listed “Michael Jordan (Gelato #45)” among Gelato’s phenotypes, and Leafly’s Bubblegum Gelato page calls it “the enshrined classic of Gelato #45”.3,18 Its offspring now draw more Leafly ratings than it does: Italian Ice has 239 and Jet Fuel Gelato 203, against 51 for Gelato 45.2,19,20
It does not appear in the sales rankings we checked: Leafly’s best-selling strains of 2025, Cannabis Business Times’ California top-10 flower lists for 2024 and 2025, and The Marijuana Herald’s September 2026 top sellers by state, all of which include Gelato itself.21,22,23,24 On Oct 4, 2026, Weedmaps showed Gelato 45 flower at 41 store listings in 7 of 27 markets, and our lab dataset holds only 53 strictly matched tests.8,25
